Thirty Years of Sino-African Relations: A Pivot in Reshaping the Structure of China's Relations with the Outside World / Liu Hongwu

Journal of World Economics and Politics, 2008(11), p. 80-88.

The transformation and development of Sino-African relations has shown the great achievements in China's foreign relations since the country adopted the reform and opening-up policy thirty years ago. Though peripheralized in the old, West-dominated world system, Africa maintains a core place in China's foreign relations. In many times, Sino-African relations have been a pivot in China's relations with the outside world, playing an irreplaceable role in improving contemporary China's diplomatic environment and boosting its international standing. The new principles of international relations such as mutual respect and equal treatment among developing countries, and the successful South-South cooperation model cultivated in Sino-African relations have generated more hope and confidence for the future of human race in this unstable world.
